Engraving metal product frames.

We laser engraved the metal frames for Nouveau’s Touchless Link™. The project shown here is an example of engraving directly onto a metal product frame.

For a similar project, send a photo with your artwork placement marked. Show nearby edges and raised features so we can check whether the laser can reach the design.

02 / THE MATERIAL
01

Metal & coating

Tell us the metal type, such as stainless steel, aluminum, or brass, and whether it is bare, anodized, painted, or plated. A product link or material specification helps us plan the test.

02

Size & placement

The design must fit within an 8″ × 8″ engraving area. Include the full object dimensions and placement photos, especially for recessed or curved surfaces. The artwork area and the object’s fit are separate checks.

03

The mark you want

Send your artwork and a reference for the finish you want. Include the quantity and any names or designs that change between pieces. Let us know whether a spare item is available for testing.

The technology behind the mark

What is MOPA laser engraving?

MOPA stands for Master Oscillator Power Amplifier. It is a type of fiber laser with adjustable pulse duration, meaning we can change how long each burst of laser energy lasts. That gives us more control over how the laser interacts with your metal’s surface.

Settings matched to your metal

Along with power and pulse frequency, we can adjust pulse duration to manage heat and the surface response. Compared with a fixed-pulse fiber laser, this adds a way to tune the appearance of your logo or lettering. It is not an ink process, so the metal and its coating influence the result.

A test establishes the finish

We test your actual alloy, coating, and finish before confirming the approach. A setting that works on one metal may look different on another. MOPA gives us flexibility; it does not guarantee a particular color or contrast on every item.

Engraving or printing?

Need a fully black logo?
Let’s look at UV printing.

Laser engraving works with the material’s surface; the result depends on the metal, coating, and settings. It is not the same as adding opaque black ink.

For a fully black graphic on aluminum, a metal business card, or another approved object, we usually recommend UV printing. It is also the route to review for full-color artwork. Send the item and finish requirements so we can recommend the right process.

Approximate production ranges

Small items$10–$25 per piece
Medium items$45–$65 per piece
Large items$100+ per piece

For planning only. Small, medium, and large are not fixed dimensional bands. Metal engraving is still limited to an 8″ × 8″ area, regardless of the overall item size.

Your quote depends on item size, engraving area, material, complexity, quantity, and rush requirements. Tell us how many pieces share the same artwork and which need individual names or designs. These are engraving prices; UV printing and laser cutting have separate pricing.

Before we start

Metal engraving questions, answered.

Which metals can you engrave?

PrintAWorld considers all metal types for MOPA laser engraving, including stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and coated metal items. We need to test the actual material and finish to see how the engraving will look. A material name alone does not guarantee a particular color or result.

Can metal engraving be completely black?

The appearance of a laser mark depends on the metal, finish, and settings. If your priority is a fully black graphic, PrintAWorld usually recommends UV printing instead. We review the object and intended use to confirm whether printing is suitable.

What is your maximum metal engraving size?

PrintAWorld’s maximum metal engraving area is 8 × 8 inches. This describes the area being engraved, not the maximum overall object size. Send the full dimensions and photos of raised edges, recesses, or curved surfaces so we can review access and fit.

How much does metal engraving cost?

PrintAWorld’s laser engraving setup fee is $75, plus per-piece production. Approximate production ranges are $10–$25 per piece for small items, $45–$65 per piece for medium items, and $100+ per piece for large items. Item size, engraving size, material, complexity, quantity, and rush requirements determine the quote. These are budget ranges, not fixed size categories or an hourly rate.

Can you engrave curved metal objects?

Send photos, overall dimensions, and the exact placement you need. We review curved surfaces and unusual shapes individually; acceptance depends on whether we can reach and position the engraving area. Overall dimensions and engraving access both matter.

Can you engrave metal items we supply?

Yes, we review customer-supplied metal items. Send photos or a product link, the material and coating, full dimensions, and artwork placement. Tell us whether you have a spare for testing. Wait for project approval and the confirmed receiving address before shipping.
